UAG File Access and Windows 2008 R2

Once you can see your domain and you can enumerate some of your servers you may find that your Windows 2008 R2 servers are not listed.  This is because by default network netbios browsing is disabled.

To make your server visible you need to enable and start the following services on that server.

  • Function Discovery Resource Publication
  • SSDP Discovery
  • UPnP Device Host
You should now be able to see you server by opening Windows Explorer and clicking on "Network"  It should start listing all your machines that have resource publishing enabled.  If you cannot see your server here File Acess wont be able to either.

Only do this for server that you need to grant file access to.  There is a reason it is disabled by default.
